On the three islets of the  Navarino Bay are the monuments to the fallen allies of the British, French and Russians, which are a special tribute to those who lost their lives.

Tsichli Baba island
French Monument

At the southwestern end of the bay of Navarino is a small island fifty meters high with a magnificent view. On maps it is indicated as “Pylos Island”, in books it is referred to as Fanari or Tripito and to the locals it is known by the name of Tsihli Baba.

The ascent to it is made with 135 steps. At the top is the monument to the French, a marble column erected there in 1890, in honor of the French fallen in the battle of Navarino.

Sphakteria Island
Russian Monument

The Russian Monument is located on Sphakteria, a four-kilometer-long rocky island that embraces the port of Pylos and makes it one of the safest anchorages in the Mediterranean.

In the middle of the island is a concrete pier and there, among the trees, is the monument to the Russians who died in the naval battle of Navarino on October 20, 1827. Next to the monument there are two churches, a Russian one (Agios Nikolaos) and a Greek one (Ascension or Panagoula).

Chelonaki Island
British Monument

In the middle of the Navarino Βαυ is the “Chelonaki” island, just 172 meters long. Here you can visit the memorial of the English fallen from the naval battle of Navarino that took place on October 20, 1827.

On the island there is a small pier and a small lighthouse for the boats that move around at night.
